LESSON04

BLOCKBENCH 3D
Turn repetition into visual rhythm

A touch of sand color,
A three-dimensional work.

M110 style,
From outline to display animation.

The large pieces of sand color stand firm first, and then the small pieces of dark gray are lined up. Along a long outline, practice steps, repetitions, and contrasts of warm and cold; finally, let the whole piece rotate slightly to see if each pixel is placed in the right place.

  • Getting started and advanced
  • Recommended 90–120 minutes
  • 59 blocks
  • 2 segments display animation

BEFORE YOU BUILD

What I practiced today was modeling, not mechanics.

This lesson is Minecraft style game art practice. The M110 prototype is a semi-automatic model, please refer to the nameU.S. Army official equipment introduction. Here its appearance is summarized in exaggerated proportions,All parameters are virtual modeling units, not actual dimensions or manufacturing drawings.

Prepare Blockbench 5.x, use Generic Model, do not need to run Minecraft. First use can be made firstPumpkin lantern introductory course.

STEP1

For new projects, first look at the big outline

First have a clear map, and then start building blocks.

  1. New Generic Model/general model, Name my_m110_proptexture set to 64 × 64, use face to face UV.
  2. Save first my-m110-prop.bbmodel. Create outermost group Display, Pivot set 0 / 8 / 0.
  3. Create Stock and Body under Display, and install the rear and central outlines respectively. If you want to see the effect first, you can open stage 01 and save your own copy.

  • There are 11 blocks and 3 groups in the reference project.
  • The left side is the texture and the right side is the outline; the central preview can be dragged and observed.
STEP2

Create sand-colored main body and stepped shape

Large blocks determine recognition, while small blocks are only responsible for completing one sentence.

  1. Pick Stock, add stock_main:Position −26 / 6 / −1.7,Size 10 / 5 / 3.4. Position is the starting point of the box, not the center.
  2. Use stock_lower to make the lower ladder, and then add stock_slope. The Z rotation of the ramp block is 20°, Pivot −16.6 / 6.25 / 0.
  3. Add a central shell, sloping grip outline and lower box silhouette to the Body. Complete a total of 11 parts according to the table and compare 01-sand-silhouette.bbmodel.

Let the duplicate cubes out of rhythm

The same small square, arranged neatly, has a rhythm.

  1. Create Handguard under Display. add forearm_shell:Position −2 / 8.2 / −1.75,Size 15 / 3.7 / 3.5, plus top and long front-end shape.
  2. The dark patches on the side areDecorative pixels on the outside. Do it first vent_near_1Copy to 6 with each X increase 2.15; the other side uses a different Z by table.
  3. Do eight of the top little prixes, each with an X increase 1.8. Unify the spacing first, and then check whether the first and last pieces cross the boundary. Completed with 35 parts in total.
What is copied is the shape, what is changed is the position.

vent_near_1 → Position −0.8 / 9.4 / 1.76; Size 1.3 / 0.8 / 0.16. In the second block, just change X to 1.35. Small patches of color are attached to the outer surface, not actual dug holes.

STEP5

Sand color, dark gray, and a touch of cool color

It doesn't have to be a lot of color, and it has to be clear.

  1. Import textures/m110-palette.png. The 64×64 atlas contains 16 16×16 color blocks, first distinguishing three rows of sand, dark gray and teal.
  2. The sand color occupies a large area, and a small difference in light and shade is used to express the matte coating; dark gray outlines the edges and the silhouette of the scope. The lens only uses a small piece of blue-green and draws a diagonal bright line.
  3. Switch to painting mode and try changing a color block with a 1-pixel brush. Turn the model every few strokes to avoid bright lines taking away attention from the entire outline.

STEP6

Arrange UV for lenses and housings

The same shape looks like itself only when attached to the right color.

Return to edit mode, select the square, and then select the face in the UV panel. In this lesson, the six sides of each square are of the same color.UV is the four boundary values of U1 / V1 / U2 / V2, not the position plus width and height.First use the following three components to check the corresponding relationship.

Sand color, dark gray, lens, try one each.

STEP7

Let the complete props float gently.

The action does not need to be big, the closed loop should be able to catch up.

  1. OpenAnimationmode, new m110.idle, duration 3 seconds, loop set to Loop.
  2. Select the outermost layer Display. On the Position and Rotation tracks, add keyframes as shown below and select Linear for interpolation.

GOAL!

This time, try to change the material.

Retain the outline, replace the sand-colored coating with low-saturated olive green, and the lens still retains a small patch of cool color. The clearer the restrictions, the easier it is to see the effect of a change. Save when finished my-m110-variant.bbmodel.

IF SOMETHING LOOKS ODD

Stuck, look at these four places first.

Why can't animation mode be found?

Confirm that the project is a Generic Model/general model, not a Java Block/Item. Keep the original file first, and then choose a project format suitable for animation.

Why is there only one small square moving?

Part instead of Display is selected in animation. Put the other six groups into Display, and then set keyframes on Display.

Why is the bracket hanging in the air and the inclined block deviating?

Check Rotation and Pivot, don't just enter Position and Size. Three decimal places in the parameter table are enough for observation, and the stage project retains complete accuracy; also check whether the basic rotation of the group has been mistakenly changed.

Can you just put it in Minecraft?

.bbmodel cannot be installed as MOD. This lesson saves general models and display animations; for in-game use, you need to select a different target version, export format, and loading plan. It does not contain game logic such as item registration, attack, damage, etc.
